It was the Best of Whines, it was the Worst of Whines . .
~DWTS Season 10 Week 3 Performance Quickcap~

[ Editor's Note: Due to schedule constraints Jeff will no longer be doing full recaps. I know, I know, he's a long winded writer but will strive to make brevity the name of the game with a new format]

Week 3 and Shannen was gone but NOT the celebrity whining. Big Tom and Brooke kicked of the show by telling us that DWTS Season 10 is THE most watched show on TV right now (so stick it, AI fans!) and then we were into the star staircase intros. . . . After giving the stars and their pros ample camera mugging time we moved right into the performances.

Performance Spotlights:

Evan and Anna's Quickstep was by far the best overall dance of the night hands down and Evan is positioning himself into one of the finalist positions. (Anna speaking the THICK, Russian accent in rehearsal paid off big time.) I'm tellin' ya the public likes its Olympic athletes and since Evan CAN dance he should go far.

One of the other really good dances of the night was Nicole and Derek's nautical "Quickstep" (Yes, the finger quotes are intentional) as it had great energy and audience entertainment value. Sure it about caused Len to blow a gasket what with the lift (Nicole lifting Derek btw. Heh!) and the hold breaks and somewhat lack of Quickstepping they did, but as Carrie Ann honestly admitted she would want to see that number again and sit in the front row. (So Len and Bruno? You know what you Brit boys can do with the "mickey" . . .).

ESPN Erin and Maks performed a beautiful Waltz (Erin's dress was quite lovely) and she did part of it BLINDFOLDED! ( Ooooo, risky!!) Len hates props and thought it took them forEVEH to get to the dancing but otherwise, nicely done.

Niecy Nash and Louise also turned in a graceful and elegant Waltz though I didn't really see much of the story between those two and perhaps the costuming could have been better to really bring home the 60's feel and the political/ cultural controversy they were trying to create with their "forbidden" love. Oh, and Louise came out that night (Like most of us didn't already guess. Hey, just sayin')

Performance Lowlights:

By far the two worst performances of the night were Buzz Aldrin's and Kate Gosslin's but for very different reasons. Look Buzz is old, ok? There is NO way he is going to compete with the younger dancers in this venue and what I can respect about Buzz is that he KNOWS this. He went on DWTS ("Shuffling with The Stars" may have been a better choice though) to be an ambassador for a generation that did a lot for this country and among them putting a man on the moon. I thought Buzz and Ashly's performance was a nice dignified although technically not good waltz. Len a bit heavy handed in bashing Buzz, but he was right.

Kate's performance was a mess AGAIN! The paso doble that she and Tony did was just . . . frightening in its horribleness. Carrie Ann's comments that it was odd and hard to watch was spot on and I totally agreed. The acting coach didn't help at ALL as she looked pretty emotionless and when she did show emotion it was these weird grimaces that totally creeped me out (yeah, some Super Beach from hell? Not so much). Sigh. Ok, enough hate on Kate this week. Maybe viewers will vote her out and we won't have to watch her Steppford Dancer performances anymore.

Performance Sidelights:

Mr. 85, Chad, whined in rehearsal and then did a mediocre paso doble (Cheryl helped their performance by wearing a muy caliente red dress)

Mr. Whine and Roses himself, Jake, The Bachelor, whined that Chelsie was being "the super beach from hell" in rehearsal and walked out then ended up doing just an okay quickstep.

Soap Star, Aiden, didn't really whine in Week 3 and he and his partner Edyta also danced the Quickstep to so so results. And what was up with the DWTS vocalist for the song, "Soul Sister?" Man, that was surprisingly bad.

Pam Anderson didn't have to channel Charo in Week 3 cause Charo herself showed up during their rehearsal for Pam and Damian's Paso Doble. Again, though I'm not a big Pam Anderson fan, I have to say she can dance and I thought she did a decent Paso Doble despite the somewhat mixed comments from the Judges. Guess we'll have to see if that performance keeps her out of the red light come results night.

Week 3 Score Results:

Evan & Anna 26
Nicole & Derek 23
Erin & Maks 23
Pam & Damiam 21
Niecy & Louis 21
Jake & Chelsie 21
Chad & Cheryl 20
Aiden & Edyta 20
Kate & Tony 15
Buzz & Ashly 13
